Working together to nourish our community.

Home-Delivered Meals Update

After the Breakfast Bag program ended in October, our Nutrition team worked diligently to ensure continued support for every client. We’re proud to share that all seniors who were previously receiving only Breakfast Bags have now been enrolled in our core Home Delivered Meal program. While we know the Breakfast Bags offered an extra layer of comfort and nutrition, especially for our most food-insecure clients, the Home Delivered Meal program ensures consistent, balanced meals that support healthy aging and independence at home. We also understand that many clients miss those added snacks and breakfast items, and our team is actively exploring creative ways to reintroduce supplemental nutrition in the future.

At the same time, we are working to serve as many seniors as possible while managing a growing waitlist and navigating reduced funding. Federal funding shortfalls this year have increased the strain on our services, and roughly 300 seniors in Contra Costa County are currently waiting for meals and support. It is a challenge we approach with determination, and we remain committed to finding sustainable solutions so that no senior has to wait for the support they need.

Volunteer Town Hall -January 21, 2026

As we move into a new year, we want to deepen our connection with you and use your insights to strengthen our mission. Our volunteers are the heart of this organization, and your experiences on the frontlines help us better understand the needs of our seniors. To support more open dialogue, we are excited to introduce a new Volunteer Town Hall Zoom series. These virtual gatherings will give you an opportunity to hear directly from members of our leadership team and ask questions in real time. Save the date: our first Volunteer Town Hall will be held on Wednesday, January 21st, from 6:00 to 7:00 PM. A formal invitation and pre-event survey will follow in the coming weeks.

Delivery Milestone!

To close, we want to highlight the incredible impact you make in our community. Fern Fonseca, MOW Diablo Region’s Nutrition Program Manager, shared that between July 1 and October 31, we completed more than 50,000 deliveries. This milestone reflects your dedication, consistency, and willingness to show up for our seniors week after week, rain or shine. Thank you for embodying the spirit of Meals on Wheels Diablo Region. We truly could not do this without you.
